Sergiu Nicolaescu - Portrait

Well-known film director Sergiu Nicolaescu passed away on Thursday, January 3, aged 82, at the Elias Hospital in Bucharest. Nicolaescu had been hospitalised on December 26.
At the end of the parliamentary session, Senator Sergiu Nicolaescu has had an emotional message for his colleagues: “I want to thank you for the wonderful four years together. I don’t have much to live and I’ve always wanted to finish things in my professional field, that’s why I didn’t take part to the elections. I want to tell you the sincerest ‘goodbye’ and also ‘A Happy New Year,” Nicolaescu said while addressing the senators.
Nicolaescu was elected MP for the first time in 1990 on the National Salvation Front’s lists (FSN). The latest legislature was his fifth mandate as social-democrat.
Film director, script writer, actor and film producer, Sergiu Nicolaescu had also taken part to the 1989 revolution.
Nicolaescu’s filmography includes more than fifty movies: “Atunci i-am condamnat pe toţi la moarte” (1971), “Cu mainile curate” (1972), “Osanda” (1976), “Ultima noapte de dragoste”, “Nea Marin miliardar” (1979), “Ciuleandra” (1985), “Mircea” (1989), “Coroana de foc” (1990), “Triunghiul mortii” (1999), “Orient Express” (2004), “15″ (2005), “Supravietuitorul” (2008).
“Orient Express” had been the most watched Romanian premiere movie, while ‘Mihai Viteazul’ (Michael the Brave) – featuring actor Amza Pellea – is considered his reference work.

Actor Serban Ionescu’s tragedy: Immobilized by severe disease after being bitten by a tick

'Actor Serban Ionescu has been bed ridden for several months and the situation is likely to continue after he got a very serious disease from a tick. Lyme disease affected his entire body. Ionescu can no longer wash or feed himself on his own. He is helped by his family and he hopes that one day he will be able to get out of bed and back on stage.

An energetic man who is full of life, who used to walk 15 km every day, the actor found out last year he was suffering from Lyme disease, caused by a tick bite. Serban is a hunter and he says everything can happen in the woods.
The disease “attacks the nervous system, (…) it paralyzes your brain… this is the disease with 1,000 faces,” says the actor, who has both hands paralyzed.
Everything began last year, when his left shoulder became immobilized. Several tests and doctor visits followed until brain surgeons realized where his condition came from. “They showed me this thing which is the size of the tip of a needle. They put it under the microscope, It scared me, I thought it was an alien or something,” Ionescu said.
Without having lost his sense of humor, the actor talks about what he is going through: “I have lost my capacity to walk (…). My nerves and muscles were atrophied and my right hand is now just like my left hand, meaning that I am a former tree, a pole, a former tree with no more branches to support me.”
Ionescu is on strong antibiotics, a treatment he has to undergo six to eight months and costs about 9,000 lei a month.
Lyme disease is an infection transmitted by infected tick bites. The bacterium enters the blood flow and affects articulations, muscles, heart and nervous system. Those infected can become paralyzed. There are about 300 such cases reported nationwide every year.'

Autumn, Violins and Bach

Autumn
does not fall
nor does it come
Autumn slowly
breaks within me
Because I am a lake
ever faceless
and I am mud
in the dreams of secret
stars
So autumn
no longer falls
nor does it come
autumn takes leave
like a night

Richard Klekociuk - the Artist , the Rocks and his Magical Pencils

Richard live in Tasmania.
"Tasmania is truly a wonderful place in which to live. The scenery is simply stunning and its population of 495,000 is well scattered throughout the island except for the southwest which is a wilderness area, most of which is listed in the national heritage register." he said....
"When I was in year nine at high school I was taught Art by Geoff Page who was such an inspiration to me that all I wanted to do was to become an Art teacher like him, and I did! I graduated from the Tasmanian School of Art in 1971 and taught in numerous schools before my retirement and loved the job!"

ART Review
The Truth About Coloured Pencils

Exhibition

Silence at the Table
Richard: "This is my favourite drawing from my exhibition.
For me personally, I think it’s right up there with the best work that I’ve ever done.
Although it was very time-consuming, it was a delight to build up the various layers, especially on the door which is full of graffiti."

WHAT THE CRITIC SAID

Richard: "There is still a hard-edged element in a lot of my work. I love using shadows and strong light. I am intrigued by the patterns that appear on rocks, reflections in water, tumbling, spraying waves and “transparent” surfaces such as rock pools and backwaters."

Quiet corner SISTERS BEACH
Richard: "I have been fascinated by the colour, size, shape, variety and texture of rocks. Let’s face it, rocks are everywhere...."

Backwater ROCKY CAPE
Richard: "There is something very special when you put a pencil in your hand and push it over a responsive surface such as heavyweight watercolour paper or pastel board. The response is instant: a line, a mass of colour – a shape. Colours can be laid down side-by-side or overlaid."
Richard: "My aim is to keep improving my technique as long as I can hold a pencil. One is never too old to learn new tricks! I want to sell my work overseas and take full advantage of my website and blog. I have yet to travel overseas and hope to get the opportunity one day. I enjoy teaching adults and participating in demonstrating pencil drawing at Art exhibitions when invited.

It can be quite lonely living down here near the bottom of planet Earth.

I invite you to visit my web site at http://www.artkleko.com/ .
